He really doesn’t have any nicknames, mostly because his name is so unusual. Artemis considered calling him “Hype” or “Hyper”, but he was just too calm for that so she gave it up. Sometimes she calls him “Spiro” after a character in a human video game, but only when she wants to confuse him (he’s not used to hearing his last name).

✒ Mercury (Mark) Spiros: his little brother. He doesn’t really understand humans; he finds them interesting, in a distant sort of way, but is too young to be mature about it. Though he didn’t care much, he couldn’t comprehend Hyperion’s reasons for attending the Academy.
✒ Wylie Elson: a childhood friend. They’ve known each other since he was five, and did everything together. She wouldn’t admit it, but she was disappointed when he decided to enroll in GA instead of the local university.

♠ H i s t o r y
Hyperion wasn’t always so quiet- when he was a kid he was as loud as his little brother, though they had their differences. He met Wylie in the first grade when they went to the same school. She walked up to him and asked him if he really knew how to read, and when he said that he did she demanded that he teach her.

He got quieter and more removed as he grew older, especially when he realized that he had to set an example for Mark. by the time he reached high school he hardly talked at all, except to Wylie and a select group of close friends. He felt as if he didn’t have anything to say. He’s opened up quite a bit since, regaining some of his former vigor, but he still lets Artemis do most of the talking for them.

He had always been interested in the humans and the shades, so when he graduated GA seemed like the best choice. though he still wasn’t very good with his wind power, and he wasn’t big on fighting, his thirst for knowledge won out and he applied. When he met Artemis she made a strong first impression, to say the least, but found that he couldn’t resist her…um,…unusual charms. Slowly but surely she’s getting him to be less shy, mostly by inciting him to make snarky comments.

✒ A quarterstaff; It’s been modified with short wings to become more aerodynamic, but he can’t use that part of it as of yet.

✒ Is rather short for a teenage guy, but he doesn’t mind. Artemis likes it because that makes him easier to see when she’s standing on the floor.
✒ Would do anything for Artemis, even go along with her crazy schemes.
✒ Has a very dry sense of humor.
✒ His mutation took place in his hair; originally brown, it turned into white-blue feathers. It doesn’t really do anything, but he likes it.
